We had a wonderful experience today at the Men’s Shed, where we went to learn how to make wooden benches. The Men’s Shed is a community project that provides a space for men to socialise, share skills and work on practical projects.

We were paired up with some of the regulars at the Men’s Shed, who taught us how to use tools, measure, cut and assemble wood. Together, they made two beautiful benches that will be donated to Age UK for their wellbeing garden for their volunteers which we are designing.

We all enjoyed the activity, and quickly they picked up the skills. They were patient, kind and encouraging showing us how to build the benches. The atmosphere was fun and very focused everyone having a turn and taking it seriously.

The benches turned out to be very sturdy and comfortable, and I’m sure they will be appreciated by the people who will use them. We are very proud of their work, and thankful to the men who showed us what to do, and also seemed very pleased with the results.

We’re glad we had the opportunity to do this, and I we will get to do something like the again and hopefully it will inspire more young people to get involved in similar activities.
